Dr. Pasquel has been focused on the future of Diabetes Technology in the hospital and how to accelerate its usability and adoption. His efforts have also been focused on individualizing therapy for patients with diabetes, where he has been working on the potential benefits of telemedicine and the gaps and barriers for optimal implementation,  as well as the use of digital health for individualized care.

His research is partially supported by NIH to study metabolism in the perioperative period (NIGMS) and to study the interaction of COVID-19 and Diabetes (internal NIDDK supported grant). He is the founder of covidindiabetes.org  and Co-Director of the Technologies Advancing Translation and Equity - Regional Core of the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research.
